A New Land

Something Davi had said triggered an idea in Regina's mind. At first it seemed like the Sheriff's advice was patronizing her. Regina was well aware that Henry would always need, or at least want, her in his life. The reminder just made her feelings seem foolish and unjustified. However, Davi's words seemed more sensible when she introduced the possibility of looking into her own past to find the true meaning of who she was. Regina had been so preoccupied with flustering herself in the present day to achieve a sense of importance for the future, that she never pondered the idea of using the past as a way to decipher what's already been etched into the fibers of who she was. Her lips curved upwards to form a subtle, but genuine, grin.

"You might actually be onto something, Sheriff."

Numerous ideas, plots, and schemes whizzed through the former Queen's mind before she settled on a plan of action that she deemed fit. You see, most people would have recalled memories and experiences when attempting to gain insight from the past, but Regina was no ordinary woman. Why limit herself to /this/ life when she could sneak a peak into her former lives? So both woman ventured to Regina's office.

"Just follow me."

Regina plainly replied. She didn't falter in her movements as she unlocked her office door and made steady strides to her desk. Opening the bottom desk drawer revealed a few spell books, one of which she pulled out and placed on the desk. The book was at least a few centuries old, but rather than some minor wear, it was in pristine condition. Regina frantically flipped through the pages before remembering that Davi was still with her. She lifted her gaze to meet the blonde's eyes and begun to explain what she had in mind.

"You asked me who I was before the Evil Queen. Well, there's a spell in here that can give you a glimpse into your past lives."

Her eyes glistened with eager excitement as she continued speaking.

"Perhaps the woman I was in the past can better explain who I am meant to be in this one."

As she concluded her response, she happened to land on the page she was looking for. She was under the impression that only a past life could reveal her true identity for her current self.Regina positioned the spell book slightly in the blonde’s direction as she noticed her inch closer to view the page.

“There’s no real way of knowing how far back we might see, but this is it.”

She replied as a slender finger pointed to the incantation. Some of the words were in Latin, but Regina had familiarized herself with enough ancient texts so that she could comprehend the many spells she came across over the years.

“This seems fairly simple. I just have to recite the words in front of an open flame as I smear my blood onto the page.”

As she continued deciphering the spell, she learned that the fire would signify the burning desire to find one’s self, while the blood would ensure the bond between the past and present lives was pure and one-in-the-same. Without haste, the former ruler emptied out a decorative glass bowl that resided on her desk. With the contents of the bowl discarded, she conjured a ball of flames and gently placed the swirling sphere of magnificent heat into the bowl. The brunette’s perfectly sculpted eyebrows were creased as her mind focused on keeping the orange flames alive. She also opened the top drawer of her desk and pulled out the dagger it housed. Regina had every intention of warning Davi of the unforeseen consequences of such a spell, and she figured now might be an appropriate time to do so.

“I’m doing this so I suggest you leave now if you have any reservations about what may happen. I suspect that the visage of my former self will appear in the flames. Perhaps like an oracle looking into a crystal ball, but I have no way of knowing for sure.” She had set her mind on conducting the spell, and once an idea erupted in her brain, she didn’t have peace until she followed through with it. She took the dagger in one hand, sliding the sharp tip of the blade across the palm of the other. The steel cut through her flesh with ease, allowing crimson blood to ooze out from her separated skin. She figured there was no harm in placing her bleeding hand firmly on the page of the spell, so that’s exactly what she did, not realizing that the consequences of her actions would follow shortly after…

Regina and Davi had been sucked into a portal and dropped into an unknown location. By the looks of the architecture, they were in the medieval times. Before they could do much exploring, a young servant girl had addressed Regina as Queen and notified them that the King awaited her presence in their bedchambers. After situating Davi in her room and claiming her as Regina's lady-in-waiting, Regina knew she had to depart from the Sheriff.

As Regina faced Davi for the final time that night, her parting words assured that they wouldn’t meet again the next morning. The blonde had even responded by addressing her as Queen. Although is was necessary on her part to keep up pretense, it still felt unusual. Regina had grown to view the Sheriff as a friend, if not an equal. Stepping, once again, into the large corridor lined with halls and doorways, Regina made note of where Davi’s bedchambers were. If the need arises, she wanted to be able to reach her. With every step Regina took, she grew somewhat anxious. She was about to meet the King, a man she had no recollection of. In her own experience as a ruler, she had no husband to dictate what she could do or how she could express her power. She was a singular entity that governed without restrictions. Here, things would need to be different. She may be able to undermine her subjects, but any rash actions towards the King and there could be consequences. When the young maid stopped in front of a door armed with statuesque guards, she knew she was standing before her room. As Regina was about to step towards the door, the maid, in a trembling voice, began to speak. ‘Will you be needing anything else, my Queen?’ Waving her hand in a dismissive motion, Regina replied.

“That’ll be all for tonight.”

With confidence and a whiff of arrogance, the brunette pushed open the door, waiting into the room with authority. The guards shut the door behind her, leaving her alone in the room with her King. Her chocolate hues scanned the room, eagerly hoping to set eyes on who her husband in this life may be. She saw no man in the room, but did walk over to a table that had a glass decanter filled with red wine. She poured the sparkling liquid into a gold goblet. As she sipped the rich liquid, she couldn’t help but admire this life. The room was larger an entire apartment that one could in Storybrooke. Ornate crystal chandeliers housing burning candles illuminated the room. The furniture was grand, made from the finest woods by master craftsmen. The bed was lined with ivory colored silk sheets with gold embroidery. Jewels encrusted every item imaginable and myrrh and cinnamon sweetly scented the room. Hell, even the wine tasted better. It had a higher concentration of alcohol while maintaining the sweet taste of grapes. The privileges a Queen had, and the lavish lifestyle, were both things she missed from her life as the Evil Queen. As she took another sip from the gold goblet, she noticed that the room had a balcony with its door open and a man facing away from her. Regina poured the heavenly solution into another golden chalice, and with both goblets in her hands, called out.

“Come inside, my King. Won’t you drink with me?”

The tall man emitted a deep laugh before walking inside. His features instantly stunning the brunette. His long, dark locks of hair, strong jawline, and muscular body were all visually appealing. The King gently took one of the goblets from her soft hands. ‘Since when do you call me by my title? I’ve always been your Vlad.’ He responded before placing a quick kiss on the Queen’s lips.
